Esra Gülmen

Head of Design
Heimat
Berlin

Date: TBD

Topic: Is This Good Enough?

Recently, I am hearing a lot about how productive I am as an artist despite my daily job in advertising. And my answer is: Yes, because I'm just doing it. As a perfectionist, I skip the part of (over) thinking and just follow my instincts while doing it. I will talk about my contradictions about perfectionism and how I built my artist career (did I?), while working in advertising.

About Esra:
Esra Gülmen (1986, Istanbul) is a visual artist and designer working as a head of design at Heimat, Berlin.

After studying interior design at Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts, she worked as an  assistant professor, taught basic design at the same faculty. After 2 years of working as an academic, she moved to Germany and started her new career as an art director and designer at Ogilvy Frankfurt. Later on, she switched over to Ogilvy Amsterdam. She has won many international awards including LIA, Cannes Lions, D&AD, One Show, Eurobest, Epica and ADC Germany.

Esra is a member of ADC Germany and four times in a row she was selected in ‘200 Best Illustrators Worldwide’ from Lürzer's Archive Magazine.

Her artworks evolve around human psychology and the tiny struggles of everyday life. For Esra, practicing art is a form of self-therapy.

She has exhibited her art in many group shows and opened three solo shows so far in Amsterdam, Hamburg and Berlin.
