Germany Wins 57 Statues at the 31st Annual London International Awards

Heimat, Berlin Wins the Radio & Audio Grand LIA

SERVICEPLAN, Munich Wins the Design Grand LIA

The 31st LIA judging was held at the Encore at Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, convening over a ten-day period. The Juries, led by their respective Jury Presidents, viewed and scored every entry within their medium, ensuring that all the work was judged equally. They concluded with final discussions to determine Grand LIAs, Statue Winners and Finalists.

Germany picks up 57 Statues and 24 Finalists – 2 Grand LIAs, 7 Gold, 19 Silver and 29 Bronze, giving Germany the third highest Statue total out of all countries at LIA 2016.

Barbara Levy, President of LIA, stated, “Nothing was taken for granted in the judging rooms.  The jury members were very conscientious when it came to Statue discussions.  They visited and revisited each piece of shortlisted work again and again.  So you can be assured that the Statue winners in the 2016 LIA Awards come from a crop of work that is universally acknowledged as exceptional.  And the Grand LIA winners are without doubt, the best of the best.  So my highest congratulations to our Grand LIA and Statue Winners.

Paul Wauters, Co-Founder / ECD of Babel, chaired this year’s Radio & Audio Jury, who ultimately awarded HEIMAT, Berlin with the 2016 Radio & Audio Grand LIA for Hornbach titled “You're alive. Do you remember?”. HEIMAT’s work for Hornbach went on to receive a number of accolades across several juries, from its “You’re Alive” campaign to the “#HELDENKRANZ / Crown of Glory” movement.

The Grand LIA goes to a campaign that makes you feel with your ears and hear with your fingers: Hornbach.  It builds on the "You’re Alive" campaign, but with a real added value of audio.  The technique is not new, but it’s the first time I see it put to such great and relevant use.  It’s a total disruption in the very functional DIY category”, stated Paul Wauters.

Led by Pum Lefebure, Co-Founder & CCO of Design Army in Washington DC, the Design & Package Design Jury awarded the 2016 Design Grand LIA to Serviceplan, Munich for DOT titled “The First Braille Smartwatch”. The piece earned a Gold Statue in Design and a Silver Statue in The NEW as well.
